Taiwan HowRU is an iPhone travel and language-learning app. It does not require an account, display advertising, sell personal information, or track you across apps and websites.
Information stored on your device
Learning progress, favorites, points, pet choices, interface preferences, manually selected weather area, downloaded language resources, optional AI models, and practice recordings are stored locally on your device. They remain there until you reset the relevant feature or remove the app. Practice recordings are not uploaded by Taiwan HowRU.
Weather requests
You select a Taiwan forecast area manually. Taiwan HowRU sends only that area's fixed latitude and longitude to the Taiwan HowRU weather proxy. The app does not request or transmit your device's GPS location. The proxy requests the nearest township forecast from Taiwan's Central Weather Administration and may use Open-Meteo as a fallback. Hosting and forecast providers may receive standard technical request information such as IP address, timestamp, and user agent as part of operating their services.
Translation, photos, and microphone
- Text translation uses Apple's translation technologies and may require a one-time language-pack download.
- Photo text and object recognition use Apple on-device technologies. Camera or photo access is requested only after you choose those features.
- Microphone access is requested only when you choose to record your voice. Recordings stay on your device.
Optional local AI models
You may choose to download a Qwen visual-language model from Hugging Face. The download provider receives the normal technical information needed to deliver the file. After download, Taiwan HowRU performs supported photo analysis on your device. These models are optional and are not needed for the app's core travel or learning tools.
Support website
If you submit the support form, we receive the name, reply email, and message that you provide. Netlify processes the form and hosts this website. We use this information only to answer and troubleshoot your request, retain it only as reasonably necessary for support and legal obligations, and do not sell it. Avoid including sensitive personal information.
External links
The app links to official transport, weather, payment, language-resource, model-hosting, and App Store pages. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.
Children
Taiwan HowRU is intended for travelers and language learners and is not directed to children under 13. Some clearly labeled slang lessons explain adult or strong language for cultural understanding.
Your choices
You can deny camera, photo, or microphone permission in iOS Settings; use the app without optional local AI models; reset learning data in the app; and remove locally stored data by deleting the app. To request deletion of a support message, use the support form and identify the email used in your original request.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app or its service providers change. The effective date above will be updated when material changes are posted.
